Time Machine 2018: Todd Young, Entrepreneur Training Athletes with Analytics
As the father of an athlete, Todd Young wanted to help his child train for success. As a serial technology company entrepreneur, he knew he could go beyond the simple hoop-in-the-backyard training method. Thus, he created a data-driven testing and analytics platform which would dramatically improve athletic development: Ballogy.
Part social media app, part training platform, Ballogy is a mobile app transforming the way youth and amateur athletes prepare for sports. By centering the training process around data, the app creates a more level playing field for young athletes across the globe.
In Ballogy, athletes build athletic profiles to showcase their achievements and highlights. They can then share their profile with friends, coaches, and even potential recruiters. The app also gamifies training to make the often exhausting process much more engaging. Players are encouraged to input their skills on a global leaderboard and compete against friends and teammates.
Combining grueling training with appealing analytics may seem like a gargantuan task, but it helps that Young is an athlete himself. He’s completed three 70.3 Ironman triathlons and is currently training for a 140.6 Ironman.
Prior to Ballogy, Young founded ProspX, a social business platform for managing the complex, multi-organization sales process of the $500B commercial insurance industry. The platform allows companies to communicate in real-time, all while providing brokers easy access to the information and resources critical to their operations.
More than just an athlete and an entrepreneur, Young is also a humanitarian. He co-founded the Step Onward Foundation, which aims to break the cycle of homelessness for young adult survivors of homelessness and families living in poverty due to health crises.
The nonprofit provides education, housing, counseling, and wellness resources to afflicted youth. With the support of Step Onward, these youth are equipped to live healthy and successful lives.
Through his expertise in technology and business, Young has dedicated himself to improving lives around the world. See how he’s made data the new youth coach at Time Machine 2018.
